Ghrelin is a peptide predominantly produced by the stomach although expressed by many other tissues. Its secretion undergoes fluctuations, is stimulated by fasting and energy restriction, reduced by food intake, glucose, insulin and somatostatin. Ghrelin secretion is negatively associated to body mass.
