Diabetes distress is the emotional distress that results from living with diabetes and the burden of relentless daily self-management. Severe diabetes distress affects around one of four people with type 1 diabetes, one in five people with insulin-treated type 2 diabetes, and one in ten people with non-insulin treated type 2 diabetes. Greater diabetes distress is associated with suboptimal diabetes self-management and impaired general emotional well-being. This talk will highlight evidence-based interventions clinicians can employ in everyday practice.
