Results: The mean age of included patients was 73 y±2.4 years with a female prevalence (65.1%). The mean HbA1c level was 10.54%±2.16%. The majority of patients were on insulin therapy (84.9%). Mean weight was 71.9±5.5 kg, corresponding to a mean BMI of 28.75±4.51 kg/m2. Among elderly diabetics, 14% had a BMI < 22. The overall prevalence of undernutrition was estimated at 49%. Sarcopenia was present in 42% of patients, of whom 31% had reduced muscle strength, 9% had reduced muscle mass and 2% had both reduced strength and muscle mass.

Conclusion: Nutritional screening is essential for all diabetic seniors, regardless of their calorie intake and BMI.
