Thrombocytes play important role in pathogenesis of diabetic vascular complications.

Aim: To study peculiarities of functional activity of thrombocytes in adolescents with diabetes mellitus type 1 (T1DM).

Patients and methods: 98 adolescents (42 boys, 56 girls) 12–16 y.o. with T1DM were examined. The duration of the disease was: less than 1 year in 25 patients (HbAc1 7.4±0.3%) – group 1, from 1 to 5 years in 40 patients (HbAc1 8.9±1.2%) – group 2, more then 5 years in 33 patients (HbAc1 10.3±1.7%) – group 3. Control group: 40 healthy adolescents 12-16 y.o. The indexes of trombocyte aggregation (degree, speed and time of aggregation) measured by laser method with different inductors (ADP, kollagen, adrenalin) and intravascular aggregation were evaluated.

Results: Levels of ADP- and adrenalin-stimulating aggregation, speed of kollagen-stimulating aggregation and intravascular aggregation of thrombocytes were increased in group 1 in comparance of control group (P<0.05). Levels of ADP- and kollagen-stimulating aggregation (P<0.05) and intravascular aggregation (P<0.001) were also increased in group 2. Decrease of aggregation time was revealed in this group (P<0.05). Increase of all indexes of functional activity of thrombocytes (P<0.05) and increase of intravascular aggregation (P<0.001) were found in patients of group 3 in comparance of control group.

Conclusions: Functional activity of thrombocytes in adolescents with T1DM appeared to increase in correlation with duration of the disease and it may demand treatment with heparinoids.
