Introduction: Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) often have other comorbidities and one of them is Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT). The aim of the sudy was to analyze metabolic and hormonal status among women with PCOS, with and without HT.

Methods: We analyzed 167 women with PCOS diagnosed using ESHRE/ASRM criteria divided on PCOS with HT (PCOSwithHT, N=27, age: 25.8±5.2 years, BMI: 28.5±7.3 kg/m2) and without HT (PCOSnoHT, N=140, age: 25.1±4.5 years, BMI: 24.5±5.9 kg/m2) and also 48 healthy controls (HC) divided on HC with HT (HCwith HT, N=10, age 32.6±5.4 years, BMI 23.1±3.8 kg/m2) and HC without HT (HCnoHT, age 29.7±6.3 years, BMI 23.6±6.2 kg/m2). In follicular phase of menstrual cycle we determined fasting serum glucose (FG), insulin, lipids, CRP, testosterone, SHBG, DHEAS, 17OH-progesterone, androstenedion, estradiol, TSH, fT4, fT3. HOMA and FAI were calculated. Differencies between groups were age-adjusted.

Results: PCOSwithHT had highest BMI than all other groups (28.7±1.2 kg/m2) and significantly differed from all other groups: vs. PCOSnoHT (24.7±0.5 kg/m2), P=0.02; vs. HCwithHT (23.1±3.8 kg/m2), P=0.02; vs. HCnoHT (23.7±6.2 kg/m2). There was no difference in any other measured parameter between PCOSwithHT and PCOSno HT.

Conclusions: Women with PCOS and HT are more obese than PCOS without HT. However other metabolic and hormonal factors do not differ between examined groups of PCOS women.
