Introduction: The aim of the study is to determine whether the guidelines on glycemic control and cardiovascular risk factors are being followed in everyday clinical practice and to describe the lifestyle habits and the wellbeing of patients with Type1 or Type 2 diabetes.

Patients and methods: A total of 990 patients with diabetes consecutively followed in the Outpatient Diabetes Clinic were studied (60.8% men). Clinical and laboratory parameters and living habits were evaluated. Wellbeing was assessed by a scale from 1 to 10.

Results: Of the 990 patients, 12.5% had Type1, while 87.5% had Type2 diabetes. Mean age: 47.5 and 67.6 years, mean duration of diabetes: 23.6 and 16.1 years respectively.

Conclusions: Our study suggests that most of diabetic patients achieve the glycemic as well as CVD risk factors and lifestyle targets, but there is still considerable potential for improvement of the guidelines implementation.
