HIV-1-infected patients under antirretroviral treatment develop the so-called lipodystrophy syndrome. It is characterized by peripheral lipoatrophy (face, limbs), visceral lipohypertrophy, and, sometimes abnormal accumulation of subcutaneous fat in specific sites, especially the dorso-cervical area.
