His research interests mainly lie in researching the various aspects of the male reproduction and its disorders including testicular function, testicular cancer, gene expression in the testis and testicular neoplasia. He has also provided scientific evidence for adverse trends in male reproductive health and for an aetiological link between male reproductive disorders.
He has published approximately 450 papers, more than 350 of them in international peer reviewed journals. He has also received various awards including the Anna & Jakob Jakobsen's Award (1992), Novo Nordisk Research Prize (1993) Andrea Prader Prize awarded by the European Society of Pediatric Endocrinology (1996), W Nielsen's Award (2001), Codan Prize (2004) and in 2006 was awarded the KFJ Medical Research Prize by Copenhagen University.
