Effect of GABA agonist on mean concentrations of growth hormone, thyroxine, triiodothyronine in the women
H Khazali, University of Tarbiat Modarres, Tehran, Iran
The goal of this study was to determine whether injections of
GABA agonist increase the plasma concentration of thyroxine (T4) ,
triiodothyronine (T3)and growth hormone (GH) in the women. Subgects were randomly divide into 4 groups. Each group received either 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 1, 2 mg Baclofen/Kg for 15 days. Blood samples were assayed for plasma T3, T4 and GH concentrations of the subject by double-antibody RIA. Mean plasma concentrations of the T3 and T4 were higher in those group were received either 1 or 2 mg Baclofen/Kg BW. Mean plasma concentrations of the T3 and T4 were not changed in those group were received either 0.1, 0,2 and 0.4 Baclofen/Kg BW. Mean plasma concentrations of the GH were higher in only group were received 2 mg Baclofen/Kg BW. Mean plasma concentrations of the GH were not changed in those group were received either 0.1, 0,2, 0.4 and 1 mg Baclofen/Kg BW.
The result of these experiment indicated that long term receiving GABA may induce mean concentrations of GH, T3 and T4 in the women and this depends on the dosage of the drug.
